Today, forest management is much more than harvesting and growing
trees. It involves the management of all resources within the forest
through an integrated planning approach. The forest is a network of
interlocking resource values including fisheries, wildlife, water
quality, recreation, adventure tourism, wilderness, and timber. Corner
Brook Pulp and Paper ensures this mosaic of resource values is managed
on a sustainable basis to provide environmental, economic, and social
benefits for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
It is essential that our forests remain healthy and diverse, and that
all forest uses are respected. In meeting this goal, Corner Brook Pulp
and Paper's forest management planning process involves public input and
participation to ensure operating plans reflect the interests of all
forest users. If we are to sustain values such as timber, water
quality, and recreational opportunities, the forest must be managed
today, with tomorrow in mind.
If you are interested in getting involved in this process, contact your
district office of the Department of Natural Resources

As part of its commitment to sustainable forests, Corner Brook Pulp and
Paper is certified to two environmental standards, the ISO 14001
Environmental Management System and the CSA Z-809 Sustainable Forest
Management. By satisfying the requirements for both standards Corner
Brook Pulp and Paper is ensuring its timber limits are being managed in
an environmentally-sound manner while considering all the values of the
forest.
Public input and participation is a requirement for certification to the
CSA-Z809-02 Sustainable Forest Management Standard. To further meet
this requirement Corner Brook Pulp and Paper formed a Public Advisory
Committee, to provide organized and regular input into the Company's
Sustainable Forest Management Plan (see link below). The Public
Advisory Committee currently consists of ~ 30 members representing
private citizens, towns, outdoor clubs and associations, union,
government, harvesting contractors, environmental groups, aboriginals,
and development boards. Please
contact us for more information, or if you are interested in
joining the Public Advisory Committee.
We invite your
feedback on our Sustainable Forest Management Plan, forest and
management practices, logging activities, and Company roads - any
subject you would like to address or discuss.
